Kodhi: Trevor Warren’s Adventures With Ayub Ogada

(Long Tale Recordings)

Ayub Ogada’s “Kothbiro”, sung to a nyatiti (the Kenyan lute) in what sounds like a pool of moonlight, has been a staple of World Music compilations ever since 1993.

At its best Kodhi, recorded on location with the guitarist Trevor Warren amid the sounds of birds and the occasional swishes of passing vehicles, has the same transparent simplicity; the occasional meanders are forgivable.
